University of Hawaii at Manoa - Thai Pavilion

Their Majesties King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit of Thailand dedicated just one sala (pavilion) beyond the borders of Thailand: a replica of a King Rama VI-era (1910-1925) sala at the East-West Center. Dedicated in 1967, the sala had the honor of being one of just four salas abroad bearing the Royal Seal. The sala deteriorated over time, was rebuilt in Thailand in 2006, and rededicated at its current location by Queen Sirikit and her daughter, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn two years later. The current sala also bears the Royal Seal. Properly known as Pratinang Patiharn Tasanai ("Thrown of the Miracle Vision"), the sala was designed by "National Artist" Dr. Pinto Suwankiri. Salas are traditionally a place of contemplation and a meeting place to promote the exchange of ideas. Here, the sala symbolizes the convergence of the East and West.

Please be respectful if you visit, and do not miss the nearby Japanese Garden.
